Recently one of HubSpot’s employee’s reached out to me after discovering my blog post 15 Sales Secrets From Daniel Pink’s Book To Sell Is Human.
The reason he reached out to me is because HubSpot recently launched an awesome new monthly video series called Sell Like a Human featuring Daniel Pink and he wanted me to help spread the word.
So far there is one video where Dan interviews HubSpot co-founder and CEO Brian Halligan and it in the video they discuss how sales is shifting like never before.
Dan argues that sales has changed more in the last ten years than it had in the previous 100 and when Brian shares points like how he bought every one of his Christmas gifts online this year it is hard to disagree.
The next Episode of Sell Like a Human will feature Dan and marketing legend Seth Godin so I encourage you to check out the series and subscribe so you can enjoy that video when it airs and the future marketing videos to come.
Cold Calling is Dead
An interesting point that came up during the video is the point that Cold Calling is Dead. Although cold calling might still work for some it is certainly not a strong marketing strategy these days since technology creates plenty of opportunities to create warmer selling situations.
Warm Emails are not Dead
Warm emails where the author has taken the time to research the person they are emailing still work quite well.
If you are emailing someone for the first time keep your email as relevant and brief as possible. Try to get a response before you spend a ton of time emailing someone before you even know if they will email back.
Warm up Potential Prospects With Social Media
Reaching out to someone on Twitter or LinkedIn is often a better way to break the ice if you are interested in collaborating with on a professional basis.
If you can help someone before asking for anything your chances of getting a positive response are far better.
If you engage with the content of someone you are interested in collaborating with your chances of getting a positive response when you reach out via email are considerably improved.
Sales is Changing
Sales is less about trying to “close” someone than it used to be and more about finding new ways to help people.
If you can prove that you are willing to work and able to get results before asking for a sale your conversion rate will be much higher than if you just tried every tactic in the book to try and get someone to say yes.
